Feeders

I believe that the only food bees should eat is nectar, honey and pollen. Feeding them anything else like sugar syrup or pollen substitute is not for me. The best method is to allow bees to keep enough honey so that no supplementary feeding is necessary. That said, there may be ocassion when they dont have enough of one or the other. In that case there is a case for storing their own honey and pollen for later feeding back to them.

I have these on my entrances with the pollen grills off most of the time, when I want to save pollen, I place the grills on and catch it in the draws. I then dry the pollen and store it away in an airtight container. If I want to feed this back to them, I simply fill the side of an empty comb with the dried pollen and insert it in the hive.

Two angle cut pieces of wood inserted near the base of the hive holds a contact feeder. Empty top bars are placed above.
