Smoker

I think the smoker can easily be overused and stress the bees quite considerably. Most times I don't use it preferring instead a water mist sprayer. I am not saying don't use it, there are times when it may be necessary, for instance, a light smoking on a cooler day when you don't want to use water which may cause some chilling. I used to use it when I ran framed hives to chase the bees down from the top of the frames, with a TBH there is no need as they cannot get up between the solid bank of Top Bars.
